the long version
Though Alina has seen odd shadows and shapes since childhood, and spent her academic life studying the occult, she does not believe in the existence of anything beyond our visible world. Rational science can explain everything, and after all she creates illusions every day in her own tedious job at a video production company. But one day she learns of a strange phenomenon in São Paulo: people of the middle class have been disappearing, people with no history of psychiatric disturbances, who then turn up again wandering the streets, disoriented as though they were living in a separate universe. The police suspect a cult, but their only clue is a geometric symbol drawn by one of the victims. Intrigued and anxious to escape routine, Alina decides to investigate this mystery that will make her question the boundaries between reason and religion, culture and belief.
