Returning from the carnage of war, Will Raith struggles to leave behind his memories and return to the days of punching cows and wielding a branding iron. The former Union spy and guerrilla soldier can't seem to settle back into ranch life. When a summons to ride to Laramie arises, Raith needs little persuasion. Accepting a mission by the territorial governor, Raith is sent to help free the lands opening up in the West from greedy land-grabbers like the ruthless Jacob Rendell. But this is not a mission for a man alone. Before he faces Rendell and his hired guns in the final shoot-out, he will need help - to get that help, he must first get himself imprisoned.
