the long version
Justina had been practically forced by her domineering aunt into marriage with Andrew, and not surprisingly the marriage had been far from happy. But now, after three years, Andrew was dead, and Justina was free. Or was she? For her aunt was now very ill in her home in the South American state of Monteraverde and demanding to see Justina and Andrew; and for various complicated reasons Justina wished to keep the news of her husband’s death from her.. Then she heard of an Englishman Dominic Hallam, who was in hospital suffering from amnesia after a plane crash, and the germ of an idea came into her mind. If she pretended to recognise Dominic Hallam as her husband, no one in Monteraverde could challenge her, her aunt’s mind would be put at rest, and the future could take care of itself. But how far would Dominic Hallam be able to co-operate?
