Tina Devino is the moderately successful author of several 'sex-and-gardening' novels, who aspires to bestsellerdom. As do her clients. In addition to her writing, Tina is a 'literary consultant', who uses her own experience of the trials and tribulations of the publishing business to advise other would-be authors. Except for a romantic novelist, Tina's own life leaves a lot to be desired - her on-off lover, the exotic former Russian ballet star, Sergei, seems to be drifting away (possibly towards his own sex), and her position on the salubrious fiction list is threatened by younger, more glamorous writers. Can Tina face up to these challenges and achieve the fame, fortune and happy ending to which she aspires?
