This text is addressed to future teachers, working teachers interested in enhancing their professional capacities, and everyone else concerned with teaching and learning. Three major theories--behaviorism, cognitivism, and humanism--are addressed, although no one theory provides all the answers to the mysteries of human behavior and development. The purpose of this book is to impart concisely what is now known or believed about the way young minds work, indicate how this information can serve in the classroom, and stimulate the reader to further pursuit in a field of inquiry that predates Aristotle and is changing and developing prodigiously.
