>Canon **Joseph Stanley Leatherbarrow** (b.1908), was Rector of Martley, a small village in Worcestershire, from 1959 to 1972. An avid reader of M. R. James's ghost stories since boyhood, he used to read them to groups of young friends in his first parishes. When the supply 'ran out', he began to write his own.
