Bert Bacharach

Bertram Max Bacharach was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended the Virginia Military Institute. His education was interrupted by World War I, during which he served in the Marine Corps, but he returned and graduated after the war. After graduating, he became a buyer and manager for Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. In 1929 he founded the trade magazine Buyer's Outlook.
