Martin, Charles

Charles Martin (1884-1934) was a prolific illustrator who published in Le Rire and in Le Sourire early in his career. At that time his drawings still have a Belle Epoque esthetic reminiscent of the likes of Hermann-Paul and Toulouse-Lautrec. His style evolves quickly, and he becomes a frequent contributor to La Vie Parisienne from 1914 to 1920. Martin’s drawings then become more art deco in nature.
