Born Lublin, Poland, to Stanisław and Marija. One brother, Jan (died Katyn, 1940). Trained as a Polish Air Force officer. Mobilized at the outbreak of 2nd World War. Imprisoned in N. Africa by Vichy government. Released by American army. Flew for RAF until end war. Demobilized in Britain. Naturalized British subject 1942. Lived in London, writing and acting.
